The country music world was completely shaken when superstar Garth Brooks, 62, was hit with a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and violent rape.
The lawsuit, filed by “Jane Roe,” alleges multiple instances of sexual misconduct by Brooks, including “’sexual grooming,’ creation of a sexually hostile work environment, unwanted sexual touching, and sexual assault.”
According to reports, Roe says the inappropriate behavior started in 2019 when she arrived at Brook’s home for a styling appointment. She then claims the “Much too Young” singer exited the shower and greeted her naked, demanding she touch him. She also provides graphic and disturbing details of a violent rape later that year.
We now know Jane Roe is Brooks’ former hairstylist and makeup artist, who worked with him and his wife Trisha Yearwood for 15 years.
‘Attempted extortion’
Brooks, saying he’s the “victim of a shakedown,” responded to the allegations with a filing where he refers to himself as “John Doe” and the accuser as “Jane Roe.”
He first asked a judge to grant both parties anonymity and claimed his accuser tried to blackmail him “into paying her millions of dollars” in exchange for her silence.
But, after the woman’s attorneys “disclosed” his name to the media, the “Shameless” singer filed a second complaint on October 8, where he identifies his accuser as his former stylist, saying he will “suffer irreparable harm to his reputation, his family, and his career” if she is allowed to continue “defamation, and false light invasion of privacy.”
Brooks’ lawsuit explains that he first learned of the allegations against him on July 17, when he received a letter from his accuser’s attorney laying out her claims.
According to the documents, Brooks claims that Roe initially sought financial help from him during a difficult period and while he agreed at first, she apparently became greedy.
Brooks’ lawyer argues that “soon after moving to Mississippi,” the stylist “apparently encountered financial difficulties and asked [Brooks] for financial assistance.”
“[Brooks] complied out of loyalty, friendship, and a desire to improve [Roe’s] condition. But [Roe’s] demands for financial assistance only increased, with [Roe] ultimately asking [Brooks] for salaried employment and medical benefits.”
After Brooks refused, he alleges Roe retaliated with false accusations that he calls an “intentional infliction of emotional distress through outrageous conduct,” and her “ongoing attempted extortion.”
‘Hush money’
The filing by the country music hitmaker details the private threats made by his former stylist, who knew her allegations would cause irreparable damage to Brooks’ “well-earned reputation as a decent and caring person.”
“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face,” Brooks said in an October 4 statement.
“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of – ugly acts no human should ever do to another.”
He adds, “I want to play music…I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart [that] these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
Hitman
Tucked away in Brook’s filing is a huge bombshell that adds a whole new layer to the situation.
The country music legend reveals the “Defendant also alleged a belief that Plaintiff planned to hire someone to murder her.” The form next explains that none of Roe’s accusations have “any basis in fact.”
