In her 40-year career, Meg Ryan was Sleepless in Seattle, popularized the AOL You’ve Got Mail ping, and reminded men that sometimes it’s fake.

About 35 years ago in When Harry Met Sally, a 27-year-old Ryan sat at a table with Billy Crystal in a crowded Manhattan deli and faked an orgasm, creating one of the most hilarious cinematic scenes in Hollywood.

“The scene came really naturally to me, and I really have Billy to thank for that,” Ryan said in December 2023. “I’ve actually never been around anyone who made faking an orgasm easier. So, thank you, Billy.”

The ultimate rom-com star won the hearts of millions through the 1990’s, engaging fans with her effortless style and adorable characteristics in films that defined the decade.

Hatred is ‘so stupid’

Over the past 62 years, the the You’ve Got Mail star has changed – a lot – and she’s no stranger to negative conversations about revisions to her face.

After “botched procedures,” the mother of two has been called “unrecognizable,” and her scarce public appearances make the online population spiral out of control.

“I can’t pay attention to it. I just can’t,” the star of Top Gun tells Glamour of the gossip. “It’s not worth it. Of course that would hurt someone’s feelings, but there are so many more interesting things to think about. Meanness and hatred are just so stupid.”

Rare sighting

Recently, the star of The Women was seen running errands in New York, looking comfortably chic as she clomped around in her trademark chunky boots and a black shift-style outfit.

She wore her shoulder length tresses with the same choppy hairstyle, her blonde highlights reflecting the rays of the sun.

Fans were divided in their opinions, some saying she’s still “cute” and others suggesting she looks “homeless.”

One netizen writes, “I love her!!! Her walk is so cute! Takes me right back to When Harry Met Sally,” while a second pens, “I think she looks cool.”

But some critics aren’t fond of her subdued elegance, “a one-of-a-kind fashion sensibility,” according to Vogue.

“Very frumpy…No style. No class. Looking disheveled,” writes one netizen. Another offers, “She looks homeless.”

A third says, “Like a bag lady with her big military shoes. Even Louis Vuitton makes mistakes.”

“She’s pretty as always but why does she walk like a penguin?” asks a cyber fan, one of many who can’t get over the “clod hoppers” she’s frequently seen wearing.

“Those shoes are like Herman Munster shoes,” says one, and another adds, “She needs to lose the big shoes and learn how to walk again.”

Sharing her concerns, another writes, “She even can’t walk!! Oh poor Meg. You were so cute.”

Limp

According to the New York Times, the Kate & Leopold star has a hip issue and has been walking with a slight limp.

In 2023’s What Happens Later, a film she stars, directs and serves as co-writer, Ryan wrote her limp into the script.

In the movie, which also stars David Duchovny, her character lightly references her old age and the limp that won’t stop her from dancing.

Parallel to her real life, Ryan won’t let her limp, aging, or criticisms, stop her from living.

“As an old person now, I love my age. I love where I’m at,” she tells Glamour. “Aging is not that terrifying. We’re all doing it. I wish someone had told me earlier, ‘Just relax. It is what it is. Don’t pay attention to the obstacles.’”
