What she found in her attic was nothing anyone should have to see
|Old, dark, and dusty.
Attics can terrify most people – but what Tracy found in hers is among the craziest things I’ve ever heard.
This is truly one of the creepiest stories I’ve ever come across…
If you live in a house, you know it has its own unique sounds. Over time, you learn how your house ”speaks” – and you become familiar with all its peculiar little quirks.
Most of the time, there’s nothing to worry about, because most sounds can be explained. A door that lets in a bit of noise, a wooden floor that creaks when you walk on it, or a metallic sound from the basement machinery.
But for the woman in this story, one of these sounds led to a horrifying discovery.
Tracy, a single mother of five from South Carolina, became famous worldwide when she shared her story a few years ago – and it still send chills down the spine.
Back in 2012, Tracy was a hardworking nurse doing her best to provide for her five children. Some of her kids were adults but had moved back in with their 44-year-old mother to help with the household and share the bills. Despite their tough living situation and financial difficulties, the family was described as happy.
As a single parent living in the rough part of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Tracy had seen it all. But nothing could prepare her for what was about to happen when she heard noises coming from her attic in 2012.
“It’s got me flabbergasted,” Tracy told The Charlotte Observer.
One Saturday evening, as Tracy was putting some of her children to bed, she suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the attic.
At first, she didn’t understand what it was, but she felt as if “something just ain’t right”. Later that evening, she sat in her bedroom using her laptop but couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was amiss.
The strange noises continued to echo through the house and lot of thoughts began to race through her mind.
Was someone trying to break in? She knew she lived in an area often plagued by burglaries. Or was it perhaps an animal that had sneaked into the attic?
At around 2:30 a.m., the noises still troubled Tracy. She couldn’t sleep and all of a sudden, nails started to pop out of the ceiling over her bed.
”It was just like; bing, bing, bing, bing,” Tracy said.
She also saw some insulation falling from the ceiling.
”I thought there was some poltergeist stuff going on.”
Tracy gathered her sons asked them to check it out. They did, but couldn’t find anything. The mother then called her nephew.
He hurried to the home and entered the attic, together with Tracy’s sons. They ventured to the far end of the attic, navigating through a jungle of heating and cooling ducts, boxes, photo albums, toys, and cassettes — a timeline of memories — and made a horrifying discovery.
”They found a man. He had packed all the old coats and jackets into the heating unit and was sleeping in the heating unit,” Tracy told Local8now.com.
When the man was discovered, he fled downstairs and left the house before the police could arrive. Later, when officers investigated the attic, they discovered multiple cups filled with feces and urine. They also observed that the man had rigged the ceiling vents to spy on Tracy from her bedroom.
As mentioned, the man fled the attic without offering any explanation for how or why he had entered in the first place. According to some reports, he just smiled as he left the house.
It was, of course, a traumatic experience for the entire family. Their story would soon spread worldwide, when it became clear who the mysterious man was.

Even though the couple had broken up long ago, they had apparently kept in touch occasionally. For instance, the ex-boyfriend had helped Tracy fix a door a year before he was discovered in the attic. According to the family, the man must have sneaked into the house through a hallway connected to the children’s room. There was no way to access the attic without entering the house, making the situation even stranger – and even more creepy.
”I went around the house and made sure doors and stuff were locked, but the sad part is that I was locking this man in the house with us,” Tracy shared.
Tracy didn’t want to reveal her full name because she was still afraid of her ex. According to Tracy, who worked long hours and was away from the house nearly 12 hours a day, it wasn’t impossible that her ex, who she said hung around nearby drug houses, was still roaming the neighborhood.
According to the police, the man had been living in the attic for quite some time, likely moving in after he was released from prison. He had been convicted of theft, having stolen Tracy’s car.
After the incident, the police had difficulty locating the man, which made Tracy even more upset.
“I want him to be charged with it,” she said. “It could be somebody else he does the same thing to, but she might not be so lucky.”
